Box Score

NEWBERRY - Senior Tasia Holdorf equaled a career high in scoring with 27 points as the Wolves topped Tusculum 88-67 on senior day on Saturday afternoon inside of Eleazer Arena.

Holdorf (Anchorage, Alaska) was joined by fellow seniors Devanee Taylor (Chester, Va.) and Ellie Gleeson (Albury, New South Wales, Australia) on the floor postgame as the three seniors were honored for their contributions to Newberry College.

The Wolves (14-7, 10-7 SAC) fell behind off the opening whistle as the Pioneers (5-16, 5-12 SAC) rebounded a missed Newberry jumper and turned around to net a 3-pointer to open the games scoring. The Wolves quickly recovered and gained a five-point advantage when Holdorf scored on a layup to give Newberry an 8-3 advantage.

The Pioneers and Wolves battled over the opening ten minutes as the two sides exchanged leads, but with 7:41 remaining in the first period Holdorf's fast break 3-point make gave the Wolves a lead that they would hold for the remainder of the afternoon.

Tusculum saw the first half slip away as Newberry's advantage reached as many as six points, before the half expired with Newberry atop the Pioneers 30-26.

Holdorf led all scorers at half with 11 points, while redshirt sophomore Emily Perry (Nambour, Queensland, Australia) led the Wolves with six rebounds.

The second half saw the Wolves run out to an 11-point advantage after junior Haylee Lepaio (Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia) scored to open the period. Holdorf followed with a layup and a 3-pointer to give Newberry a 37-26 advantage with 18:05 on the clock.

Newberry's lead extended to 18 points as Lepaio knocked down a pair of free throws, before a layup by Perry pushed the lead to 15. A free throw by Holdorf and a jumper from Gleeson gave Newberry the 48-30 lead with 13:29 remaining.

Holdorf continued to dazzle on senior day as she hit a 3-pointer with 12:34 to go to push the lead to 21. Newberry eventually saw its lead reach 23 points after a pair of free throw makes from junior Zara Pearson (Echuca, Victoria, Australia). It was after Pearson's free throws at the 9:43 mark that the Pioneers began to claw back into the game.

Over the next three minutes Tusculum cut Newberry's lead down to 12, not letting Newberry's lead extend beyond 15 until the game crept inside the five-minute mark. It was with under five minutes remaining that Newberry saw its lead jump back out to as many as 26 points, before time expired on a 21-point victory with Newberry atop the Pioneers 88-67.

Lepaio led Newberry in the second half, as the post player recorded a double-double in just the second half with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Holdorf led Newberry with 27 points, while also snagging eight rebounds, two steals and blocking two shots. Lepaio's final double-double numbers saw her score 24 points along with 12 rebounds.
