NEWBERRY – The No. 19 Newberry College Wolves closed out a perfect day at the Eighth Annual Newberry Duals with a strong 43-0 victory over the Blue Raiders from Lindsey Wilson College on Saturday afternoon.
Trung Duong (Lynchburg, Va.) faced a tough battle against James Flint - the NAIA’s No. 7 ranked 125-pounder - but emerged victorious with an 8-5 decision to kick off the dual.
Jordan Simpson (Oxford, Ala.) extended the Wolves’ advantage to 7-0 after a 10-2 major decision over Felix Casa del Valle at 133 lbs.
Nick Lankford (Braselton, Ga.) held off a late charge at 141 lbs. from Daniel Leonard and held on for a 6-4 win by decision. The win pushed Newberry’s lead to 10-0.
Seiji Borja (Charleston, S.C.) was dominant in a quick 1:30 pin over Paul Longshore at 149 lbs. and Dennis Flores (Hanahan, S.C.) won by forfeit at 157 lbs. to increase the edge for the scarlet and gray to 22-0 at the halfway point of the dual.
Lukas Gilmore (Greenville, Mich.) showed some power in a 17-4 major decision at 165 lbs., clinching the dual win at 26-0.
Joe Pittman (Forsyth, Ga.) cruised to an 18-2 win by technical fall at 174 lbs., followed by a Jared Holliday (Burlington, N.J.) 4-0 win by decision over Erick Gomez.
Cody Brundage (Chapin, S.C.) earned a pin at the 2:22 mark at 197 lbs. and Daniel Adkins (Gardendale, Ala.) put the wraps on a fantastic day for the scarlet and gray at heavyweight with a 3-2 decision.
Newberry went 4-0 on the day to run the season record to 4-1. The scarlet and gray went 39-1 in individual matches on Saturday.
