BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Wolves' softball team split a doubleheader with the King Tornado Saturday afternoon on the road, falling in Game One before taking the final game of the day.

The team, whose record now stands at 11-9, will return to action Wednesday, hosting Mars Hill in the Wolves' first home conference doubleheader of the season.

Game One: King 3, Newberry 1

King used a strong pitching performance from Hannah Light to outlast Newberry in the day's first contest.

Light's complete game, four-hit gem spoiled a great day by Newberry's Kaylyn Camacho (Tampa, Fla.), who gave up three total runs, of which only one was earned, and four hits in a complete game six-inning effort.

King struck first, using a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Through the early innings, Newberry was able to put runners on base, but could not string hits together to drive any runners home. In the sixth inning, however, a Jennifer Yancey (Dunwoody, Ga.) RBI fielder's choice scored Brittany Phillips to close the deficit to a run. But King would add an insurance run in the bottom of the inning and hold off the Wolves for a 3-1 victory.

Game Two: Newberry 7, King 4

Darrian Jamison (Versailles, Ky.) paced the Wolves offensively to lead Newberry to a 7-4 win and a split in Saturday's doubleheader.

Jamison went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI, crossing the plate in the fourth inning and knocking in an important insurance run an inning later.

Newberry moved ahead quickly, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a Casey Nellums (Duluth, Ga.) single and a Jennifer Yancey double, both with two outs. The Wolves moved ahead 3-0 an inning later, using a Jamison RBI sacrifice bunt and an error to plate two more runs.

After moving ahead 5-0 in the fourth, the Tornado mounted a comeback on starter Shelley Jeffcoat (Lexington, S.C.), who earned the win by pitching five innings, scattering nine hits to allow four runs, with only one earned. Two singles and an RBI fielder's choice brought home the runs to pull the Tornado within two runs.

The Tornado would add single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but Newberry's insurance runs in the fifth and seventh allowed the Wolves to earn the victory.
