NEWBERRY - The Newberry men's tennis team returned to action after over a week without a match, easing to an 8-1 victory over the visiting Reinhardt Eagles.
Newberry (7-5) picked up two points in doubles actions at No. 1 and No. 3. The Wolves top pairing of juniors Michael Saunders (Christchurch, New Zealand) and Vinicius Botelho (Fortaleza, Brazil) picked up an 8-2 win over Reinhardt's (1-3) Nick Dragiheceanu and Garrick Sanford, while at No. 3 freshman Fernando Espana (Madrid, Spain) and junior David Sons (Lexington, S.C.) notched an 8-0 victory.
The Wolves swept the Eagles in singles action, starting with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 by Saunders and Botelho, respectively. Moving up the lineup to the No. 3 spot, Espana dropped only one game in a straight sets win over Steven Sepulveda.
No. 4 singles saw senior Cal Loveridge (Derby, Derbyshire, England) pick up a two-set victory, while Sons also was victorious in two sets at No. 5. Newberry's final point came at No. 6 singles, where junior Jeffery Kiser (Newberry, S.C.) battled back after losing set one and earned a three-set victory over Sanford.
Newberry hits the road on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. match against the Limestone Saints in Gaffney.
