GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Double-digit scoring efforts by a trio of Wolves was not enough for the Newberry women's basketball team as the Tusculum Pioneers earned a 70-56 home victory over the Newberry Wolves at the Pioneer Arena on Wednesday evening.

Newberry (18-9, 10-7 SAC) fell behind Tusculum (14-11, 8-9 SAC) early as the Pioneers jumped out to an 8-0 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the opening half. The Wolves got themselves onto the scoreboard with 14:33 left in the first half as junior Tasia Holdorf (Anchorage, Alaska) hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 8-3.

Tusculum continued to run away from the Wolves early in the first half as the Pioneers answered Holdorf's 3-pointer with another 8-0 run before junior Devanee Taylor converted a three-point play to cut the Pioneers lead to ten.

Newberry battled back over the next few minutes as the Wolves cut the Pioneers' lead to six on a jumper from Taylor. The Pioneers again jumped out in-front of Newberry as Tusculum extended its lead to double-digits once again, leaving the floor at halftime with a 15-point lead.

The Wolves were unable to climb out of the first half hole as the Pioneers double-digit lead remained for the entire second half, extending to as many as 21 points after Jama Hammontree hit a 3-pinter with 11:44 remaining.

Newberry followed Hammontree's 3-pointer with a eight-point swing resulting in a 54-41 ball game as the Pioneers, continued to hold the Wolves at-bay escaping with a 14-point victory.

The Wolves were led by Taylor's 15 points, while senior Kendra Brown (Swansea, S.C.) and sophomore Samantha Creed (Montmorency, Victoria, Australia) added 13 points and 10 points, respectively. Brown led the Wolves with eight rebounds.

Newberry wraps-up the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m., when the Wolves play host to the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears.
