SALISBURY, N.C. - A near double-double for junior Devanee Taylor was not enough for the Newberry women's basketball team as the Wolves fell 64-42 on the road against the Catawba Lady Indians.

Newberry (18-8, 10-6 SAC) opened the afternoon's scoring, before Catawba (15-9, 11-5 SAC) took control of the game over the next couple of possessions and proceeded to run its lead out to seven points at the 12:43 mark. Trailing 11-4 the Wolves quickly put together a five-point swing in their favor on scores by Taylor (Chester, Va.) and senior Kendra Brown (Swansea, S.C.).

Catawba controlled the remainder of the first period, but the Wolves did not allow the Lady Indians to gain much footing holding the Catawba lead to less than five points for the remainder of the half. Catawba took the momentum out of the Newberry comeback at the end of the half as Quaneasia Coleman hit a 3-pointer with 21 seconds left to take Catawba to halftime with a 25-21 lead.

After two scoreless minutes to open up the second half, sophomore Zara Pearson (Echuca, Victoria, Australia) hit a 3-pointer to open the scoring for the second period. Pearson's 3-pointer was followed by a layup by Brown, which netted the Wolves their final lead of the afternoon as Catawba pieced together a 15-0 run immediately following Brown's layup to take a 40-26 lead over the wolves with 11:39 remaining in the game.

Catawba's double-digit lead stayed in place the remainder of the game as the Lady Indians pushed the lead to 20-points with 1:06 on the clock on a pair of Chloe Bully free throws. The Wolves were unable to score for the final 3 minutes as Catawba ran away with a 22-point victory.

Sophomore Samantha Creed (Montmorency, Victoria, Australia) led Newberry with 13 points, while Taylor added 10 points and led the Wolves with nine rebounds. Pearson posted a seven point performance. Taylor also finished the day with four blocked shots.
