NEWBERRY - The Newberry pitching staff continued its dominance at the Smith Road Complex on Wednesday, highlighted by Kaylyn Camacho's second no-hitter of the season, as the Wolves swept King University in a nonconference doubleheader.

The Wolves, who are now 8-2 on the season, are next in action on Friday as part of the Limestone Tournament, with four games scheduled over two days in Gaffney.

Game One: Newberry 6, King 0

Senior pitcher Kaylyn Camacho (Tampa, Fla.) was brilliant in the day's first game, allowing no hits and walking just four batters to earn her second no-hitter of the season. Camacho opened the new Smith Road Complex with a five-inning no-hitter against Lees-McRae in the first game of the season.

Camacho had three innings that lasted just ten pitches or less and lowered her ERA on the season from 1.08 to a miniscule 0.70 after the win. The Newberry defense was stellar behind her, playing error-free in a game in which only three batters went down by way of strikes.

King (2-10) had its most dangerous scoring threat came in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Aubrey Hutt walked and advanced all the way to third base on a sacrifice bunt. She attempted to score on a groundout to shortstop Brittany Phillips (Pacolet, S.C.), but first baseman Jennifer Yancey (Dunwoody, Ga.) alertly threw home to end the inning, catching Hutt before she crossed the plate for a 6-3-2 double play.

Newberry exploded for three runs in the bottom of the frame. Phillips doubled Gabby Bedard (Winder, Ga.) home from third to start the scoring, then Leah Hosking (Williamston, Mich.) sent the first pitch she saw to the foot of the scoreboard behind the left-center field fence to give Newberry a 3-0 lead.

The Wolves added an unearned run in the third inning before Yancey smacked the first pitch of the fourth inning over the right-centerfield fence to push the advantage to 5-0. Bedard added an insurance run in the sixth inning with an RBI single through the left side that extended her hitting streak to three games.

Game Two: Newberry 3, King 1

Shelley Jeffcoat (Lexington, S.C.) improved her record to 5-0 on the season with another dominant pitching performance to lead the Wolves to a sweep. Jeffcoat went six innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out two. Like Camacho in the first game, Jeffcoat had three innings in which she threw ten pitches or less, leaving Tornado hitters completely stymied.

Newberry did all of its damage in the fourth inning. Bedard and Danielle Basch (Muskegon, Mich.) started the inning with bunt singles, then advanced on a wild pitch. Phillips drove both in with an RBI single through the left side of the infield. A flyout, a single and a sacrifice bunt then put two runners in scoring position with two outs for Yancey, whose RBI single gave the Wolves a 3-0 lead. Yancey and Basch would both finish 2-for-3 in the game.

The Tornado threatened in the fifth inning, but Jeffcoat induced a flyout to end the inning and leave a runner stranded at third. A Christina Melcher home run in the sixth inning finally allowed King to dent the scoreboard, but Jeffcoat allowed no more baserunners in getting out of the inning.

Hannah Blakley (Manning, S.C.) pitched a perfect seventh inning to earn her first save of the season.

With her bunt single in the fourth inning, Gabby Bedard has now hit safely in four consecutive contests.
