WINGATE, N.C. - A 10-point performance off the bench by junior Devanee Taylor stood out for the Wolves, as Newberry fell 60-45 on the road against the Wingate Bulldogs.

Wingate (11-12, 5-8 SAC) led wire-to-wire as the Bulldogs jumped out to an eight point lead in the opening six minutes. Newberry (16-7, 8-5 SAC) was held to only a field goal until just inside the 14-minute mark as Taylor hit a jumper inside the paint to cut the Bulldogs lead to only six.

The Bulldogs ran away from Wolves in the first half, extending their lead to as many as 17 points in the opening period. Wingate took a 10-point lead to halftime.

Newberry came out of the locker room at halftime with a vengeance as the Wolves outscored the Bulldogs 11-2 in the first six minutes of the second half. A 3-point make by sophomore Samantha Creed (Montmorency, Victoria, Australia) capped the Wolves run as Wingate's lead shrunk to 30-29.

Wingate was not held down for long as the Bulldogs lead once again extended beyond five points. Newberry did not let Wingate jump out too far, until the final two minutes of the game when the Bulldogs' lead again reached double digits. Wingate was able to hold the Wolves in the final three minutes of the second period as Wingate clinched a 15-point home victory.

Creed led the Wolves with 14 points, while Taylor collected 10 points and eight rebounds. Creed dished out five assists on the evening, while sophomore Zara Pearson (Echuca, Victoria, Australia) passed out four.

Newberry returns home on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tipoff against Carson-Newman as the Wolves host their Play 4 Kay game and a “Pink Out” of Eleazer Arena.
