NEWBERRY - The No. 4 Newberry Wolves dominated from start to finish, setting a school record for dual points and tying the school record for margin of victory with a 54-0 win over the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots in the final session of the 2013 Super Region I Duals presented by Sonic Drive-In of Newberry in Eleazer Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Newberry completes the event with a 14-2 dual record. The Wolves' next action will come on Wednesday, January 30, at 7 p.m. whne they wrestle at King University in Bristol, Tenn.
No. 4 Jeff Vesta (Manhattan, Kan.) won the 125 lbs. bout by forfeit and Nick Lankford (Braselton, Ga.) recovered from an early deficit in the 133 lbs. bout to record a pin of Josue Rodriquez at the 5:28 mark and push the lead to 12-0.
No. 5 B.J. Young (Jackson, N.J.) cruised to a 16-1 technical fall over Nick Varazashvili at 141 lbs. and the No. 8-ranked 149-pounder Deral Brown (Elgin, S.C.) notched a 19-6 major decision over Tyler Green to make it a 21-0 Wolves lead.
At 157 lbs., No. 4 Taylor Knapp (Lawrenceville, Ga.) needed only 54 seconds to pin Eli Stewart and No. 5 Blake Ridenour (Maryville, Tenn.) won the 165 lbs. bout by forfeit to push the Newberry lead to 33-0.
Travis Sheehy (Suwanee, Ga.) pinned Kobina Henriques 2:36 into the 174 lbs. match and Joe Pittman (Forsyth, Ga.) pinned Nicco Niday 3:48 into the 184 lbs. bout to make it a 45-0 lead. At 197 lbs., Braden Carter (Christiansburg, Va.) eked out a 1-0 decision over Chase Long and heavyweight Matt Wade (Easton, Md.) won the heavyweight decision via forfeit to clinch the record-breaking victory.
