NEWBERRY - Kendra Brown's top game of the 2012-13 season saw the senior tally 19 points as she led the Wolves to a 67-55 victory over the visiting Catawba Lady Indians on Saturday afternoon.

Newberry (12-4, 4-2 SAC) opened the game with an early 10-4 lead, before the visiting Lady Indians (7-7, 3-3 SAC) replied with a nine-point swing to take a 13-10 lead over the Wolves. Sophomore Haylee Lepaio (Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia) snapped the Wolves scoreless streak with a layup, before Catawba's Elizabeth Merritt and Newberry junior Tasia Holdorf (Anchorage, Alaska) exchanged 3-point makes to push the score to 16-15 with the Catawba advantage.

The two teams continued to exchange makes, before Newberry ran away after the final media timeout of the opening period. With under four minutes remaining in the first half, the Wolves ran out on a 9-1 swing to head to halftime with a 34-24 lead. During the final four minutes of the opening half, junior Devanee Taylor (Chester, Va.) recorded five points, while Brown (Swansea, S.C.) and sophomore Samantha Creed (Montmorency, Victoria, Australia) netted two points each.

Brown led the Wolves at half with 11 points, while sophomore Zara Pearson (Echuca, Victoria, Australia) led Newberry with three assists. Brown also tallied three assists in the first period.

After an early second half layup by Brown put the Wolves ahead by 12, Catawba slowly cut back into the game, pulling within five points with 16 minutes remaining. The five point differential was the smallest margin of the second period, as Newberry ran away in the second period reaching an 11 point advantage on a 3-pointer by Pearson with just under ten minutes remaining.

Catawba continued to fight, but the Wolves advantage remained in double figures for the final six minutes of the game. Newberry's largest lead came with a little over three minutes remaining when a pair of made free throws from Pearson put the Wolves up 60-45 for a 15-point advantage.

Again the Lady Indians cut into the Wolves' advantage, but Newberry continued to hold off Catawba as it skated to a 12 point victory after a made free throw by Pearson wrapped up the game.

Brown led the Wolves with 19 points, while Lepaio posted 14. In the rebound column, Taylor, Lepaio and junior Ellie Gleeson (Albury, New South Wales, Australia) each brought down six rebounds. Pearson also pulled down five boards on the afternoon. Brown and Taylor both posted three steals, while Gleeson led Newberry with six assists.

Newberry outdueled the Lady Indians 31-24 in the rebound column, while also outdoing Catawba 14-9 in the assist column.

The Wolves hit the road on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. meeting with Brevard at Boshamer Gymnasium.
