HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Newberry softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader at Lincoln Memorial on Friday, dropping game one 6-2 before the Lady Railsplitters earned an 8-4 win in game two.

The Wolves fall to 15-22 overall and 1-13 in the South Atlantic Conference. Newberry is scheduled to meet Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C. on Monday.

Game One: Lincoln Memorial 6, Newberry 2
A pair of Wolves tallied multi-hit games as the Wolves fell in the doubleheader opener to the Lady Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial.

LMU opened the day by scoring a run in both the first and second inning before Newberry struck for two in the third. With one out in the top of the third inning Newberry junior Tasia Diaz (Dowagiac, S.C.) singled through the left side, before advancing to third on a single by junior Brittany Phillips (Pacolet, S.C.). Phillips ground ball single skipped off the LMU second baseman allowing Phillips to advance to second.

Another infield single for the Wolves, this time from sophomore Jennifer Yancey (Dunwoody, Ga.), would score Diaz. With Phillips now on third, the Wolves would plate a second run when Phillips scampered home on a throw to second that resulted in Yancey being called out while attempting to steal second.

LMU would go on to score four runs in the bottom of the third before keeping the Wolves off the board for a 6-2 victory.

Diaz and Phillips both finished game one with two hits each.

Game Two: Lincoln Memorial 8, Newberry 4
Newberry sophomore Shelby Holland (Charlotte, N.C.) was responsible for all four of the Wolves' runs in game two as she finished the second game of the doubleheader 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

The Wolves offense took advantage of a pair of LMU errors in the opening frame as Phillips reached safely on a fielding error by the Lady Railsplitters shortstop. After Yancey drew a walk, Wolves junior Kaylyn Camacho (Tampa, Fla.) bunted Phillips to third and Yancey to second. With one out Holland singled through the right side before advancing to second on a throwing error as both Phillips and Yancey scored.

With a pair of runs on the board Newberry sophomore Paige Brugh (Indian Land, S.C.) welcomed LMU's second pitcher of the inning with a RBI single to left.

LMU countered Newberry's three-run first inning by putting up four runs of its own in the bottom of the first inning. After a scoreless second inning, the Wolves added a fourth and final run in the top of the third.

Holland led off the third with a double to left center, before advancing to third on a single by junior Ashley Roof (Columbia, S.C.). With runners at the corners, freshman Summer Bartek (Jefferson, Ga.) singled through the right side allowing Holland to score the Wolves' fourth run.
