NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry Wolves started the season with a fantastic Opening Day sweep of Southern Wesleyan, highlighted by a one-hitter in the opener by Shelley Jeffcoat (Lexington, S.C.). Newberry won the first game 4-0 and took the second game 7-2.

Game One: Newberry 4, Southern Wesleyan 0
Jeffcoat retired the first 18 batters consecutively before her perfect game bid was broken up by a seventh inning single on the way to a complete game one-hitter. The junior struck out a career-high 12 batters and took advantage of diving plays at shortstop by Brittany Phillips (Pacolet, S.C.) to keep the Warriors off the bases.

Paige Brugh (Indian Land, S.C.) got Newberry's scoring started with a leadoff double in the bottom of the second and scoring on a Jennifer Yancey (Dunwoody, Ga.) single through the left side to make it 1-0.

Gwenell Crawford (Yulee, Fla.) led off the bottom of the third with a single and made the lead 2-0 on Hailey Harris' (Rougemont, N.C.) RBI single.

The Wolves wrapped up the scoring in the fourth with pinch runner Casey Nakawatase (Lincolnwood, Ill.) scoring on a wild pitch and Tasia Diaz (Dowagiac, Mich.) coming home on a Crawford single.
