NEWBERRY - A second half shooting surge by sophomore Samantha Creed, which saw the Australian score 10 second half points on three 3-point makes and a free throw, helped push the Wolves to a 71-68 victory over the visiting Voorhees Lady Tigers at Eleazer Arena.

The Wolves opened the game on a hot streak as Newberry surged out to a 10-2 lead in the opening 15 minutes. All four of the Wolves points from the field came with an assist attached to it. The Wolves saw their lead cut to four points, before a fast break layup by senior Kendra Brown (Swansea, S.C.) was followed by a made free throw as Brown converted the three-point play.

After the Lady Tigers made four straight stops on the defensive end, it was junior Tasia Holdorf (Anchorage, Alaska) who put the Wolves back in the scoring column. Voorhees did not let the Wolves stretch their lead, as the Lady Tigers cut Newberry's lead down to three points with six minutes remaining.

Voorhees took its only lead with just under five minutes on the clock, before sophomore Haylee Lepaio's (Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia) layup at 4:25 sparked a 14-2 run by the Wolves. Lepaio bookended the Wolves run as her layup with a little over a minute remaining saw Newberry lead Voorhees 37-26 heading into halftime.

The second half opened with Voorhees pressuring the Wolves on the defensive end and cutting the Newberry lead to two points with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Sophomore Zara Pearson (Echuca, Victoria, Australia) converted from beyond the 3-point arc to put the Wolves back up by five. Newberry's lead reached nine on multiple occasions as Holdorf sparked the Wolves off the bench with seven points in two minutes.

Newberry's lead reached 12 with a little under six minutes remaining in the second period when Creed (Montmorency, Victoria, Australia) hit three 3-pointers in a span of three minutes. The Wolves led by nine with two minutes remaining, before Voorhees cut the Wolves lead to two points on four made free throws and a made 3-pointer from Kierra Patterson. Creed converted with two seconds on the clock from the free throw line, to clinch the Wolves' three point victory over Voorhees.

Creed impressed all-around with 17 points, six rebounds and eight assists, while shooting 4-8 from beyond the arc. Lepaio led the Wolves with 23 points and eight rebounds. Brown finished the evening with 13 points and four steals, while Pearson added seven rebounds and six assists.

Newberry and Voorhees finished even in rebounding with 35 each, while Newberry outrebounded the Lady Tigers on the defensive end 31-24. The Wolves finished the game with 21 assists and five blocked shots. Newberry shot an impressive 54-percent from the field and 42-percent from beyond the arc, while scoring also scoring 40 points in the paint.

Newberry continues its homestand on Saturday when the No. 20 Limestone Saints travel to Eleazer Arena for a 2 p.m. showdown against the Wolves.
