SALISBURY, N.C. - Dondray Walker made seven three-pointers on the way to a career-high 31 points, leading the Newberry Wolves to a 91-87 overtime victory over the Catawba College Catawba Indians on Saturday afternoon in Goodman Gym.

The Wolves move to 9-6 overall and 4-4 in South Atlantic Conference play, while Catawba drops to 4-12 and 1-7 in SAC play.

Walker (Fountain Inn, S.C.) scored 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Wolves, while two other Newberry players recorded double-doubles. Savad Garner (Fountain Inn, S.C.) scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Brunes Charles (Naples, Fla.) scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, as well as grabbing four steals.

Newberry took off to a massive lead early before the shooting touch cooled down. Three-pointers from Matt Dixon (Elizabeth City, N.C.) and Walker got the Wolves off to a 6-0 start, and Newberry was up 12-2 after just over four minutes. A pair of Garner free throws at the 9:41 mark put Newberry up 29-9 for the Wolves' largest lead of the game.

However, the Catawba Indians went on a 24-4 surge to tie the game up at 33-all on a Conor Strickland trey at the 3:45 mark. Both teams cooled down, but Newberry was able to take a 39-35 lead into the half.

The Wolves' lead was precarious throughout the early stages of the second half, and Catawba took its first lead of the game at the 11:05 mark of the half on a Stuart Thomson fastbreak layup to make it 55-53 in the hosts' favor.

With 4:39 left in regulation, Catawba led 76-68 before the Wolves clamored back to force the extra period. With Newberry down seven, Walker nailed three-pointers on back-to-back trips to cut the deficit to one point. Garner scored a bucket inside the final 20 seconds to tie the game and the defense held off the Catawba last gasp attempt to send the game to OT.

Charles made a free throw on Newberry's first possession of the extra frame, and a Walker putback on the missed second free throw put Newberry up by three points - a lead the Wolves would not relinquish. Back-to-back close shots from Tomas Tomasson (Reykjavik, Iceland) helped put the Wolves' lead out of reach.

Newberry heads home for four consecutive games in Eleazer Arena. The Wolves host Brevard at approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday night to wrap up the first round of South Atlantic Conference play.
