In the second game of the twinbill the Wolves had the game tying run on second base in Chelsie Hilbourn (Loris, S.C.) but couldn't get her home as the scarlet and gray went down, 5-4.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh down 5-2, Newberry (15-26, 2-12 South Atlantic Conference) battled back within one run after Jessie Teague (Charlotte, N.C.) started the two out rally with a single to centerfield to keep the game alive. Codi Kelly (New River, Ariz.) then doubled to left field and was followed by Hilbourn who drove in both baserunners with a two RBI double to make it 5-4 Anderson (21-18, 3-11 SAC). Felicia Taylor (Venice, Fla.) then walked to bring up senior Richelle Mirabal (Tampa, Fla.) who struck out to end the game.
The Wolves started off the contest with a quick 2-0 lead after a Taylor two RBI single in the bottom of the first that scored Kelly and Hilbourn. Kelly started off the inning by hitting her first of three doubles on the game.
Anderson scored its first run in the top of the second after a Taylor wild pitch brought home Amber Duncan (Matthews, N.C.) to cut the Newberry lead to one.
The Trojans then took the lead for good in the top of the fifth on a pair of RBI singles to make it 3-2 Anderson.
A Charlotte Sieber (Dacula, Ga.) single to centerfield then brought home a pair of runs for the Trojans in the top of the seventh which would prove to be the game winner for Anderson.
Taylor went all seven innings from the circle, giving up four earned runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking four. Casey Deer (Ulmer, S.C.) went the distance for the Trojans as well, giving up three earned runs on six hits while striking out seven Newberry batters.
