NEWBERRY, S.C. - Double-double performances by Neicey Lewis and Haylee Lepaio paced the Wolves in a 78-58 victory over the visiting Converse Valkyries.
Lewis (Riverdale, Ga.) led all scorers with a career high 25 point and picked up a second career high with 10 rebounds. Lewis was joined by Lepaio with ten rebounds, as the native of Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia, also posted 14 points.
The Valkyries (0-5) and Wolves (3-1) battled back-and-forth in the opening nine minutes before Converse surrendered its final lead of the evening with 10:01 remaining in the first half. Once the Wolves regained the lead it was all Newberry from that point on as the Wolves extended their lead to as many as 26 points inside Eleazer Arena.
Newberry earned its 26-point lead with 15:59 remaining in the game as junior Kendra Brown (Swansea, S.C.) hit a 3-point shot. The Wolves lead fell to 20 points as the Valkyries found a spark off the bench in Colleen Leung, who finished the evening with 20 points and six rebounds.
Brown finished the evening with 16 points, while Devanee Taylor recorded eight rebounds and nine points off of the bench. Taylor's eight rebounds are a career high for the sophomore from Chester, Va.
Newberry returns to action on Nov. 29 at Voorhees with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
