NEWBERRY, S.C. – No. 10 Newberry College overcame an early 7-0 deficit to defeat UNC Pembroke 33-11 in dual meet competition Wednesday night. Four different Indians scored bonus points victories in the win.

The Braves jumped out to a 7-0 lead with wins at 157 and 165 lbs., before Bryant Blanton put the Indians on the board with a 15-0 tech fall win at 174 lbs.

Blanton dominated the match recording over five minutes of riding time and getting three near falls in the match. With the win the Newberry pulled to within two of Pembroke at 7-5.

A Keeno Griffin win by forfeit at 184 lbs. pushed the Indians into the lead at 11-7 heading into the 197 lbs. match.

Kelly Anundson increased the Newberry lead to eight with a 15-5 major decision win at 197 lbs. Anundson dominated the action from the beginning with seven takedowns in the match and over three minutes of riding time.

At 285 lbs. No. 3 Cy Wainwright won his record 31st match of the season for the Indians with a win by fall at 4:10 against Erik Stancil. The redshirt junior broke the record of 30 wins set by Brandon Kelly last season. With the win the Indians lead increased to 21-7.

After a major decision loss at 125 lbs. pulled the Braves to within 21-11, Andrew Young pulled off an 11-6 upset win over No. 8 Mike Nash at 133 lbs. Young picked up a takedown in the final 15 second to secure the win. The win secured the win for the Indians with a 24-11 score and just two matches remaining.

At 141 lbs., Tony Washington picked up a close 3-1 win as the Indians extended their lead to 27-11.

In the final match of the evening, Latra Collick picked up a win by fall in 6:01 over Nick Jones at 149 lbs.

With the win Newberry improves to 5-1 against East Region opponents this season.
