Newberry Falls at Limestone 64-59

GAFFNEY - The Newberry Lady Indians fell to Limestone College 64-59.  Newberry drops to 7-3 while Limestone moves to 5-6 on the season.

Newberry struggled from the floor to start the game.  The Lady Indians went six and a half minutes before scoring their first field goal.  A pair of free throws by Janine Ward (Tallevast, Fla.) were the only points for the Lady Indians during that time.

After falling to a 10-2 deficit, Tacarra Harris (Tupelo, Miss.) ended the Newberry drought and sparked a come-back.  The junior's lay up started a 13-1 run giving the Lady Indians a 15-11 lead.  Newberry stretched its lead to six points.

With the scoreboard reading 19-13, Limestone went on a 9-1 run to reclaim the lead at 22-20.  With the Saints leading by five points, Leanne Watson (Stone Mountain, Ga.) buried a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to three points going into the locker room.

To start the second half, the two teams seemed content to trade baskets before a three-pointer by Carnicha Bellinger (Greenville, S.C.) tied the game at 35-35.  Newberry quickly extended the lead to five points.  However the lead would be short lived.

Limestone used the next six minutes to go on a 18-2 run taking control of the game.  Trailing by 12 points with less than five minutes to play, Newberry battled back.  The Lady Indians got within three points on two occasions including with eight seconds on the clock.  However, two free throws by Essence Greer sealed the game for the Saints.

Tonique Frasier (Walterboro, S.C.) had a game high 25 points and 15 rebounds.  That is Frasier's second double-double in a row and her third of the season.  Ward added eight points for the Lady Indians.

Tiffany Jones had 17 points for the Saints while Lindsay Kyle added 10 points.

Newberry returns to action after Christmas when they host Mercy on December 29th.  Tip off is at noon.
