No. 24 Newberry Downs Queens University, 87-42

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The No. 24 Newberry Lady Indians rolled past host Queens University in the Queens City Classic 87-42. With the win, the Lady Indians move to 2-0 to start the season. Queens falls to 0-2.

Queens University looked to be giving Newberry all they could coming at of the gate. With 13 minutes to play in the first half, the game was tied for the third time at 10-10. From there the Lady Indians went on a 22-4 run to blow the game open and take a 32-14 lead. Newberry took a 26 point lead into the locker room with the scoreboard reading 45-19.

Newberry held the Royals scoreless for the three minutes of the second half.  The Lady Indians scored 21 points off of 16 turnovers. The Royals could not get settled in as Newberry rolled to a 45 point victory.

Leanne Watson (Stone Mountain, Ga.) led all scorers with 13 points. Tonique Frasier (Walterboro, N.C.) added 12 points, while Laura Marquardt (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) had 11 points. Janine Ward (Tallevast, Fla.) was the fourth Lady Indian in double digits with 10 points. Newberry had 13 players record a point on the evening.

The Lady Indians will travel to Augusta, Ga. to take on Augusta State University on November 24th. The game tips-off at 2 p.m.
