Men's Soccer suffers first loss of season to Shepherd, 1-0

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.- Emannuel Elomobor's (Silver Spring, Md.) goal at the 65:00 mark lifted Shepherd to a 1-0 win over Newberry in men's soccer action at Shepherd on Saturday afternoon.

Elomobor scored the game-winner on assists from Roberto Azevedo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Leighton Meredith (Clarendon, Jamaica).

Freshman netminder Anthony Pino (Centreville, Md.) had five saves in a shutout effort for the Rams. Will Dieterich (Tampa, Fla.) had four saves for Newberry.

Shepherd improves to 1-1-1 on the season, while Newberry falls to 2-1-0. The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Seton Hill for a 1 p.m. contest.

Newberry travels to Wingate, N.C. on Wednesday to open South Atlantic Conference play against Wingate University, with a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The next Newberry home matches will come on Saturday and Sunday, September 9 and 10. The Indians host Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday, with a 5 p.m. kickoff. The Sunday match will see Newberry host the Cobras of Coker College with a 3 p.m. start.
