PROSPERITY, S.C. - Newberry College's Hunter Mengel (Stone Mountain, Ga.) claimed medalist honors at the Mid-Carolina Golf Invitational, shooting an opening round 70 and finishing at par in the one-day tournament held at the Mid-Carolina Country Club.  UNC Pembroke took the team title with rounds of 288 and 304, finishing +16 on the day.

Pembroke's Forrest Shuford IV tied Newberry's JR Jones (Washington, W.Va.) for second place at one over par.  Jones paced Newberry's B squad, as Mengel led the A squad.  Newberry's best four golfers would have combined for a 592 to tie UNC Pembroke for the lead had they been paired on the same team.
