Lawrence Terry

Coach Terry is new to the Newberry program but not new to coaching. He brings to Newberry eighteen years of experience coaching and developing youth athletes, AAU/USATF athletes, high school student-athletes, collegiate student-athletes, and both U.S. and International Professional Athletes. Terry spent most of his coaching career at Richland Northeast High School in Columbia, SC. He is the Founder/CEO of Support For Superstars, a nonprofit specific to student-athletes. He was voted Vice President of 4A Cross Country and Track & Field by the South Carolina High School League from 2019 to 2020. Coach Terry is a United States Track and Field Association member and a USATF Level 2 Certified Coach in Sprints, Hurdles, Jumps. He also holds a Level 1 Coaching Certification from United States Sports Academy. Coach Terry went on to obtained his Coaching U.S. Paralympic Track & Field: Level 1 Certification.

USATF and United States Olympic Committee selected Coach Terry as an Elite Emerging Coach in the Combined Events, July 2010. He represented Bermuda as a Coach at the Central American & Caribbean Games in Puerto Rico, July 17-Aug 1, 2010. He recruited & coached an athlete from the country of St. Vincent & the Grenadines as he prepared for the 2011 World Championships, CAC Senior Games, Pan Am Games, and entry into a U.S. college. From 2019 to the present, he has coached an athlete from Malta to a New National Record three separate meets in the 110mh and 60mh. He will continue to coach him in preparation for the 2021 World Indoor Championships and 2021 Olympic Games. Coach Terry is currently coaching a French Paralympic Athlete, Jean Baptiste, in the Long Jump in preparation for the 2019 Para World Outdoor Championships this November in Dubai.

2019Shania Bellamy- BACK TO BACK 1st Place High School State Champion 400mh, 2nd in 100mh at State, 3rd in the 200m at State, and 6th in the Long Jump at State Championships. Dallas Wise- 6’10” High Jump 1st Place High School State Champion, 23’9” Long Jump, 46’8” Triple Jump, and he is also a U.S. Paralympic Athlete currently ranked in the top 3 in the World in all three jumps. We are training in preparation to represent the USA at the 2019 Para World Games in Dubai. Jarret Eaton- 2019 World Indoor Cup Champion in 60mh. 2020 World Indoor Championships automatic bid for the 60mh, selected to represent the USA at the 2019 Pan Am Games in Peru and Team USA vs. Europe in the 110mh. Silver Medal with Team USA 4x100m. Daniel Saliba- New Malta National Record in 110mh twice in our first season together. Marcus Maxey- Clemson University grad that is an Army Sgt who has been selected to represent the USA Military in the 110m hurdles at the 7th CISM World Games 2019 in Wuhan, China in October. USA Outdoor National Qualifier 110mh. Breana Norman- U.S. Hurdler 8.26 60mh; 50m 6.40 PR; USA Indoor Nationals Qualifier. Jean Baptiste- French Paralympic Long Jump Athlete who will compete at Worlds.

2018Jarret Eaton- Ranked #4 in the U.S. with a new PR of 7.43 and #9 in the World at 60mh. He won the Silver Medal at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, UK. Had a 13.3 110mh S.B. Devon Hill- U.S. 110mh Hurdler 13.3 SB; USA Outdoor and Indoor Nationals Qualifier Shania Bellamy- Richland Northeast High School sophomore who won the girls 400m hurdle State Championship after I taught her the event four weeks prior. Marcus Maxey- U.S. Army 13.7 110mh S.B., Won Texas Relay 110mh Championship. Tristine Johnson- 6.49 PR Long Jump; New P.R.s in the 100m and 200m;

2017Jarret Eaton- 7.59 60mh/ 13.34 outdoors; Placed top three in numerous international meets Spencer Adams: 7.61 60mh; 13.5 110mh; battled injuries most of the season. Tristan Joynes- Bermudian 110mh hurdler

2016Jarret Eaton- 7.50 60mh 1st in USA and 4th in the World/ Olympic Trials Qualifier, 55mh PR 7.14, New PR 13.25 110mh. Spencer Adams- New PR 7.54 60mh 2nd in USA and 5th in the World and Olympic Trials Qualifier in the 110mh. Tristan Joynes- Bermudian 110mh hurdler

2015DeAndre Baker- High School Athlete 23’5” Long Jump 45’5” Triple Jump

2014Kelsey Briggs- High School Athlete 19’3” Long Jump. Fred Townsend- 13.5 110mh

2013: Westwood High School Boys & Girls Region Champions, Brianna Pressley- State Champion in 100m & 200m, 11.96 100m 23.9 200m 57. 400m. Jai Lykes 43ft Shotput 123ft discus. Kelsey Briggs 5’2” high jump, 18’5” Long Jump State Champion. Anthony Friday- 57’ Shot Put, All were 2013 Outdoor New Balance High School National Qualifiers. Fred Townsend- Battled injuries but competed on the European Circuit.

2012Fred Townsend- New indoor 2012 PR in the 50mh- 6.63, 55mh- 7.19, & 60mh- 7.54. Ended the indoor season ranked #8 in the USA and #12 in the World. He was a 2012 Olympic Trials Qualifier 13.3 110mh. Alonzo Moore- USA Indoor Championships Qualifier in Long and Triple Jump 15.51m from short approach at USAs; 15.64m Outdoors short approach. George Fields- USA Indoor and Outdoor Championship Qualifier in Long Jump 25’11”

2010-2011Shianne Smith- New National Record in Heptathlon, and Bermuda National Champion. Mariah Williams-2nd Place in 100m, 3rd Place in 200m, and 5th Place in 100mh at 2011 S.C. High School State Meet. Courtney Williams- Recruited and Coached the St. Vincent & Grenadines Sprinter. Fred Townsend- New PR in 110mh 13.42, currently running in Europe. Alonzo Moore- 54ft Triple Jumper, USA Indoor & Outdoor Championship Qualifier

Assistant Coach 2002-Present 

2020: highlighted by Daneen Hazelwood of Columbia International University winning the conference championship in the 60-meter hurdles, running a personal best, and qualifying for NAIA Nationals.

2013Craishaud Foulks- High School Athlete 6’10” High Jump and 23’8” Long Jump

2012Lehann Fourie- South African 110mh hurdler, 2012 London Games Finalist

2011: Recruited Lehann Fourie and worked with numerous athletes across South Carolina

2010Fred Townsend- 13.50 110mh, Phillip George- 6’10” High Jump South Carolina High School State Champion, and Tyrone Smith- New 26’11” National Long Jump Record for Bermuda at the Central American and Caribbean Games.

2006-2009: Assisted with coaching numerous Elite Athletes from around the World, and continued to work with youth student-athletes
