Appeared in 23 matches as a freshman… Recorded 142 kills, averaging 1.42 per set… Third on the team with 52 total blocks… Tallied 23 digs… Posted a season-high 15 kills and a .480 kill percentage vs. Coker (10/10)...


Samantha De Jong is a 5-foot-11 middle blocker/right side hitter from Wando HS and the teammate of Maggie Marsh. De Jong has served as member of the varsity squad for the past three seasons, with her squad ranking first in the state of South Carolina and 51st in the country. She finished the season with 136 total blocks which placed second among all volleyball players in the state of South Carolina. At the Carolina Forest Invitational she was named to the All-Tournament team and was deemed the MaxPreps Player of the Match on nine different occasions. De Jong also teamed up with Marsh in club volleyball, playing for Newberry College volleyball alumnus Alicia Khoury for the Carolina Islanders 18U Elite. De Jong is the daughter of Michael and Karen De Jong and she has a younger sister, Sydney, who also started on the Wando varsity squad this season as a right side hitter. Samantha intends on majoring in biology. 

“Sam has been on our middle blocker radar for two years," Hay said. "She brings a strong arm and good blocking instincts to the program. She has excellent quickness and comes from a state championship program in Wando. We are excited to have Sam join us next fall.”
