Payton Duncan joins the Newberry College volleyball coaching staff in the 2023 season. Duncan has had coaching experience on all high school, club levels, and college.
Before Newberry, Duncan was a coach and an administrator and culture coach for the Stars Sports Volleyball Club in Spartanburg, SC. While at Stars Sports, Duncan assisted in coordinating programs both in the Upstate and Columbia. Along with that, Duncan led out a bible study with the athletes. Duncan coached multiple travel teams aging from 14-17 years old.Â
In 2021, Duncan worked as the Club Director for Stars Sports Savannah, running the club, planning practices, running programs along with coaching two travel teams.Â
Before Stars Sports, Duncan was a graduate assistant coach at Converse University during the 2019 season. As a graduate assistant, Duncan had planned road trips, coaching the outside hitters and the liberos, and helped the Valkyries make back-to-back Conference Carolina's postseason tournaments.
Duncan had a stellar playing career in college. As an athlete, Duncan was named to the 2018 UNC Charlotte Invitational All-Tournament Team as well as the 2018 Golden Eagle Invitational All-Tournament team at USC Upstate. Duncan transferred to USC Upstate from Erskine where she was named the 2015 Conference Carolina's Freshman of the Year along with earning first team all-conference honors. In 2015, Duncan helped lead the Flying Fleet to the NCAA tournament where she was named to the all-tournament team.
