NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry Wolves battled hard Tuesday night but dropped a 3-1 South Atlantic Conference match to Anderson at Eleazer Arena. After claiming the opening set, Newberry was unable to hold off the Trojans, who won the final three sets to earn the conference victory.
The Wolves came out strong, recording 15 kills and a .297 hitting percentage in a commanding 25-16 first-set win. Anderson responded by taking the next two sets 25-16 and 26-24, before closing out the match with a 25-18 victory in the fourth.
Maggie Helle and Carole Ann Hussey led the Newberry offense with 12 kills each, while Symone Wyatt added eight. Defensively, Helle posted a team-high 23 digs, followed by Anna Schneider with 16 and Hailey Clayworth with 14.
Newberry's offense was directed by a balanced setting effort from Carley Raleigh and Lexi Duplissis, who finished with 19 assists apiece. Duplissis also led the Wolves with two service aces.
At the net, D'Metria Jordan paced the defense with three blocks, while Wyatt contributed two. The Wolves totaled 46 kills, 42 assists, 74 digs, and five blocks on the night.
With the loss, Newberry moves to 8-3 overall and 1-3 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Wolves will look to bounce back in their next conference matchup.
