NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry College Athletics Department has announced the addition of three graduate assistants to its Athletic Communications and Creative Services staff for the 2026-27 academic year. Alana Akil, Paige Perkins, and Stettson McGovern will each serve as Graduate Assistants for Athletic Communications and Creative Services, joining the department ahead of the upcoming athletic season.
Akil, a native of Germantown, TN., earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Mississippi. Perkins, who hails from Waterford, CT., graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where she was a member of the softball program. McGovern, a native of Liberty, PA., earned his undergraduate degree from PennWest Clarion.
In their roles, the trio will assist with a wide range of responsibilities, including athletic communications, creative content production, graphic design, social media, photography, videography, statistical coverage, and game day operations across Newberry's 27 varsity sports.
"I'm incredibly excited to welcome Alana, Paige, and Stettson to our Athletic Communications and Creative Services team," said Christopher Williams, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications and Creative Services. "Each of them brings a unique background, valuable experiences, and a diverse set of skills that will strengthen our department in different ways. Their creativity, work ethic, and passion for collegiate athletics will help us continue elevating the Newberry Athletics brand. The three graduate assistants officially began their duties this week and will play an integral role in supporting Newberry Athletics throughout the 2026-27 academic year.
