This week's South Carolina Army National Guard Newberry College Players of the Week are senior tennis player Hazel Vernon (Plymouth, England) and senior second baseman Jomar Lugo (San Sebastian, P.R.)
 
Vernon led the Wolves to a pair of clutch South Atlantic Conference wins over Anderson (4-2) and UVA Wise (4-1).  She teamed with Lina Sarhan at the #1 doubles position to win their doubles match 6-1 against Anderson and 6-4 against UVA Wise.  At #6 singles she won her match against UVA Wise 6-2, 6-3 and split her sets against Anderson before the Wolves clinched the match.  The week vaulted the Wolves into fourth place in the SAC.
 
Lugo batted .444 with four runs batted in which included a clutch two-run double that drove in the only runs of the game in the Wolves series clinching 2-1 win over Lenoir-Rhyne to improve the team's SAC record to 16-8.  He singled to drive in the first two runs of the game in the Wolves 9-5 win in game one of the doubleheader.  Lugo leads the team with a .380 batting average and seven sacrifice hits and is second in RBI with 27 and doubles with seven.
