MARS HILL, NC – Newberry split Friday's SAC doubleheader at Mars Hill, rolling to a 13–4 win in the opener before falling 6–4 in game two at Henderson Field. The Wolves combined for 17 runs across the twinbill and used a late offensive surge to take game one, but Mars Hill answered early in the nightcap to secure the split.
Game 1: Newberry 13, Mars Hill 4
Newberry erupted for 10 runs across the sixth and ninth innings to pull away from Mars Hill for a 13–4 victory in game one of Friday's SAC doubleheader at Henderson Field. The Wolves scored in four different innings and capitalized on extra-base hits and patient at-bats, finishing with 11 hits and nine walks in the opener.
Luke Compton led the offense with a four-hit performance, scoring three times and adding two doubles, while Nick Foster drove in four runs on a pair of doubles. Jomar Lugo launched a three-run home run and scored three times, and Bryson Nuckols added a two-run homer as part of a two-hit day. Keillor Osbon contributed a two-RBI double, while Cooper Raines chipped in an RBI double off the bench.
On the mound, Jacob Clark earned the win after working 6.2 innings and allowing four runs while scattering eight hits. Will Rissmiller closed the game with 2.1 innings of one-hit relief to secure the victory.
Game 2: Newberry 4, Mars Hill 6
Mars Hill struck for three runs in the first inning and added another three-run frame in the fifth as Newberry dropped the second game of the doubleheader, 6–4.
Osbon paced the Wolves with a two-hit performance and two RBIs, including a double, while Jomar Lugo reached base four times with two hits and two walks and scored a run. Logan Busenlehner added an RBI single, and Chandler Mims drove in a run as part of Newberry's three-run fifth inning.
On the mound, Jake McGlynn took the loss after working 4.2 innings, while Cayden Hansen followed with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
The Wolves look to close out the regular season on Sunday in their series finale vs. Mars Hill at 2pm.
