NEWBERRY – On Senior Day at Setzler Field, the Newberry men's lacrosse team delivered a dominant all-around performance, defeating Tusculum 23-5 in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday night.
The Wolves (11-4, 7-2 SAC) honored their senior class with a commanding effort from start to finish, racing out to a 6-0 first-quarter lead and never looking back against Tusculum. Newberry controlled every phase of the game, finishing with a 55-25 shot advantage and a 41-16 edge in shots on goal while dictating tempo throughout all 60 minutes.
Offensively, Liam Vollans led a balanced and explosive attack with a game-high nine points (3 goals, 6 assists), setting the tone for a unit that saw 15 different goal scorers. Matthew Burt added a hat trick, while Gage Vigar (2G, 1A), Mason Carfello (2G, 1A), and Adam Christenberry (2G) highlighted the Wolves' depth. Ace Nichols contributed three assists as Newberry's ball movement consistently generated high-quality looks.
The Wolves also controlled possession, winning the ground ball battle 55-33 and dominating faceoffs 22-10, allowing Newberry to maintain pressure and limit Tusculum's offensive opportunities. In goal, Newberry rotated multiple keepers in the Senior Day victory. Ben McMullen anchored the unit with eight saves and just one goal allowed across nearly 38 minutes of action. Parker Lamb picked up the win in relief, while Luke McLellan, Rainen O'Kurley, and Colin Maaiki also saw time between the pipes, combining for additional stops as the Wolves held Tusculum to just five goals on 16 shots on goal.
Newberry also converted 3-of-5 extra-man opportunities, adding to its offensive efficiency and early separation. Fittingly on Senior Day, the Wolves closed out a complete team performance in front of the home crowd as they continue to build momentum late in the regular season.
Newberry is the #2 seed. More updates with time and information will come as they get ready for SAC Tournament play.
