NEWBERRY, SC – Newberry dropped a 7–4 decision to USC Aiken on Tuesday evening at the Smith Road Complex despite piling up 14 hits in the nonconference matchup. The Wolves scored in the first inning and stayed within striking distance throughout the night, but USC Aiken answered with runs in five different innings to hold off the comeback effort.
The Wolves got early production when Luke Compton reached and moved into scoring position before Jomar Lugo singled, and Keillor Osbon brought home Newberry's first run on a fielder's choice RBI. Osbon recorded two runs batted in while Logan Busenlehner and Chandler Mims drove in the rest of the four.
Six different Wolves achieved multiple hits as Newberry continued to pressure USC Aiken's staff, finishing with 14 hits overall.
On the mound, Newberry used multiple arms in relief while trying to keep the Wolves within reach down the stretch.
The Wolves will look towards the weekend series vs. Catawba at home on Friday at 6pm.
