NEWBERRY, SC - The No. 19 Newberry Wolves women's tennis team earned a 4-2 victory over Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at home.

Tusculum opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning two of the three courts. The duo of Hazel Vernon and Lina Sarhan secured Newberry's lone doubles win with a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. The pairing of Margarita Roshka and Aina Miralles battled at No. 3 doubles but fell 7-6, while Renee Dorval and Yui Suzuki dropped a close 7-5 decision at No. 1 doubles.

The Wolves responded strongly in singles play, winning four courts to secure the team victory.

Suzuki picked up a straight-set win at No. 2 singles, defeating her opponent 6-1, 7-6. Sarhan also earned a three-set victory at No. 3 singles, winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Dorval added another point for the Wolves with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 performance at No. 5 singles, while Vernon secured a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

Two other singles matches were not completed after the match was decided. Roshka fell at No. 1 singles, while Miralles' match at No. 4 singles was left unfinished.

The Wolves will be on the road next in Hilton Head taking on West Virginia State University.
