HICKORY, N.C. – The No. 17 Newberry men's lacrosse team earned the biggest win in program history, knocking off No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne 16–15 on Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium. The victory improves the Wolves to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference play while marking the highest-ranked opponent Newberry has defeated in school history.
Newberry set the tone early, scoring six goals in the opening quarter to build an early lead. Lenoir-Rhyne answered with a strong push in the middle quarters, including six goals in the third period, to pull within striking distance heading into the fourth. The Wolves responded with four fourth-quarter goals and held off a late rally from the Bears to secure the historic conference victory.
Bradley David powered the Newberry offense with a standout performance, recording five goals and three assists for eight points. Matthew Burt added three goals, while Scott Williams finished with three goals and one assist. Liam Vollans contributed one goal and three assists, and Ace Nichols tallied two goals and one assist. Noah Everson and Gage Vigar also scored in the win.
Defensively, Ben McMullen made 17 saves in goal to help the Wolves withstand 48 shots from Lenoir-Rhyne. At the faceoff X, Houston Horton went 16-for-30 and led the team with nine ground balls, helping Newberry edge the Bears 18-16 in faceoffs. The Wolves also collected 34 ground balls and finished a perfect 15-for-15 on clears. With the win, Newberry remains undefeated in SAC play
