WINSTON-SALEM, NC — The Newberry College men's volleyball team earned a dominant road victory Thursday afternoon, defeating Carolina University 3–0 at Williams Gymnasium. The Wolves controlled the match from start to finish, winning in straight sets 25–12, 25–12, and 25–13.
Newberry hit an efficient .426 as a team with 32 kills, while holding Carolina to a -.173 attacking percentage in the match. Lucas Nieves led the Wolves offensively with 11 kills on .550 hitting, while also contributing 10 digs and five blocks for a strong all-around performance. Preston Anderson added 10 kills and hit an impressive .643, while also recording two service aces. Timothy Cox contributed seven kills while hitting .583, and Greyson Crumpton directed the Newberry offense with 27 assists in the sweep.
Defensively, the Wolves totaled nine blocks and 33 digs, with libero Ethan Cooke recording six digs in the back row. Newberry jumped out quickly in the opening set and never trailed, taking the frame 25–12. The Wolves again used an early run in the second set to pull away for another 25–12 victory before closing the match with a 25–13 win in the third. With the win, Newberry improves to 3–10 on the season.
The Wolves hang around in North Carolina for their match tomorrow against Barton College at 7pm.
