MARS HILL, NC - The Newberry Wolves men's tennis team earned a strong conference road victory on Wednesday morning, defeating Mars Hill 4-2 in South Atlantic Conference action.
Newberry set the tone early by taking control in doubles play. The pairing of Senthen Reddy and Sohei Kamiyama secured a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles over Sirac Aslan and Dylan Wilson. The Wolves also picked up a victory at No. 3 doubles as Martin Posada Garcia and Noel Bartz defeated Diell Mehmedi and Ishamael Dowuoua 6-4 to give Newberry the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles match between Daniel Watson and Lucas Mruk and Mars Hill's Paul-Antoine Pelzer and Riccardo Moretti finished tied at 5-5.
The Wolves continued their momentum in singles competition, capturing three individual victories to clinch the match. Daniel Watson delivered a dominant performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Dylan Wilson in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Martin Posada Garcia added another point for Newberry at No. 3 singles, battling through a three-set match to defeat Sirac Aslan 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Noel Bartz also earned a convincing win at No. 5 singles, topping Yasen Kehayaminchev 6-2, 6-1.
Mars Hill picked up singles victories at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions, while the No. 6 singles match between Lucas Mruk and Diell Mehmedi remained unfinished.
The Wolves will return to the courts on March 7th against Tusculum University at the Oakland Tennis Center.
