JEFFERSON CITY, TN – Newberry dropped the opening game of its weekend SAC series at Carson-Newman, falling 11–7 Friday afternoon in Jefferson City. The Wolves erased an early deficit with a three-run third inning and continued to chip away throughout the middle frames, but a four-run eighth inning by the Eagles created separation late in the contest.
Luke Compton led the Wolves offensively with a 2-for-5 effort, two runs scored, and an RBI, while Keillor Osbon connected on a two-run home run as part of his two-RBI performance. Josh Bandy added two hits including a double and drove in a run, and Nick Foster also recorded an RBI as Newberry finished with eight hits and nine walks in the loss.
On the mound, Jacob Clark worked 4.2 innings with a lone strikeout before the Wolves' bullpen consisting of Jake McGlynn (2.1 IP), Anthony Plotkin (0.1 IP), and Andrew Peck (0.2 IP) combined for 3.1 innings of relief down the stretch.
The Wolves look to tomorrow in the series deciding doubleheader beginning at 12pm.
