Newberry Battles Against No.14 Lander at Home

NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry Wolves acrobatics and tumbling team fell to the No.14 Lander Bearcats in a home meet on Tuesday evening, dropping a 265.650–172.165 decision.

Newberry opened the meet in the Compulsory Event, posting a score of 22.65. The Wolves were highlighted by a strong 9.10 in the Pyramid Heat, but were unable to record a score in the Tumbling Heat, creating an early gap. Lander took control early with a 38.20 in the event.

In the Acro Event, the Wolves totaled 22.45 points, led by their best performance in Heat 1 (8.05). Despite steady efforts across all three heats, Lander continued to build its lead with a 29.15.

Newberry showed improvement in the Pyramid Event, finishing with a 24.90. The Wolves turned in solid routines in all three heats, including an 8.75 in the Inversion Heat and an 8.35 in the Open Heat, but again were edged by Lander's 29.20.

The Toss Event saw Newberry score 23.40, highlighted by their strongest toss of the night in the Open Heat (8.80). However, Lander maintained its advantage with a 29.20 in the event.

Tumbling proved to be a challenge for the Wolves, finishing with a total of 26.625. Newberry was led by a 7.500 in the Open Pass and a 6.675 in the 6-Element Pass, but missed opportunities in the Duo and Quad Passes limited their scoring potential.

In the Team Event, Newberry posted a 52.14, bringing their final total to 172.165.

Newberry will return to competition on April 3rd to face off against the University of Montevallo at Wingate University in a Tri-meet at Wingate, NC.
