This week's South Carolina Army National Guard Newberry College Players of the Week are senior midfielder Lana Howell (Aurora, Co.) and junior right side hitter Lucas Nieves ( Kissimmee, Fla.)
 
Howell scored four goals on seven shots last week and added an assist, caused three turnovers and had two draw controls and a ground ball as the Wolves split a pair of games against #7 ranked Slippery Rock at SAC foe Emory and Henry.  She scored a hat trick in the Wolves 16-2 win at Emory & Henry, all in the first half to help the team build a 10-0 halftime advantage.  Howell has 12 goals and two assists this season and 66 goals, 17 assists and 83 points in her Newberry College career.
 
Nieves totaled 16 kills, 12 digs, four blocks and four services aces leading the Wolves to a pair of sweeps during the week which included the program's first home victory and first winning streak.  He had 11 kills in the home sweep of Warren Wilson, marking the seventh time this season and sixth time in the last eight matches he has registered double digits in kills.  Nieves leads the team in kills (167), points (210), total blocks (13), service aces (20) and is tied for the team lead in digs (103).
