Vigar Hits 100 Points as Wolves Extend SAC Streak

NEWBERRY, S.C. — No. 8 Newberry College men's lacrosse team put together a strong showing on both ends of the field, defeating Coker 18–8 Wednesday night at Setzler Field. The win was highlighted by Gage Vigar reaching the 100-career-point milestone.

The Wolves (8-2, 4-0 SAC) set the tone immediately, scoring five unanswered goals in the opening quarter while holding Coker without a shot on goal. Mason Carfello opened the scoring with a man-up goal, and Bradley David added two early finishes as Newberry built a 5-0 advantage.

Newberry controlled every facet of the game, outshooting Coker 54-22, including a 33-11 edge in shots on goal. The Wolves also dominated possession with a 53-30 advantage in ground balls and won the faceoff battle 20-9, led by Colby Rogers (10-of-15) and Houston Horton (10-of-14).Coker (6-3, 2-2 SAC) trimmed the deficit to 7-3 by halftime, but the Wolves responded with a decisive third quarter. Newberry poured in six goals in the period, highlighted by contributions from Matthew Burt, Vigar, Scott Williams, Liam Vollans, Ian Jackson, and David to extend the lead to 13-6.

The Wolves put the game out of reach early in the fourth quarter with four goals in under two minutes. Vollans scored twice during the run, while David and Jackson each added goals. Ben Pawluk later capped the scoring as Newberry cruised to the conference win. Vigar finished with five points (2 goals, 3 assists), reaching the 100-point mark in his Newberry career. David led all scorers with four goals, while Vollans added three goals and an assist. Jackson, Burt, and Carfello each tallied three points, while Williams and Woodworth also contributed multi-point efforts.

Defensively, Newberry forced 26 turnovers and limited Coker's extra-man unit to 0-for-2. In goal, Ben McMullen earned the win with three saves. With the victory, Newberry remains unbeaten in South Atlantic Conference play at 4-0. The Wolves return to action Saturday as they travel to face Emory & Henry, with faceoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
