GREENEVILLE, TN — The Newberry Wolves opened their South Atlantic Conference weekend series with a 7–0 shutout victory over Tusculum Friday night at Pioneer Park. Behind a dominant pitching performance and timely hitting, the Wolves improved to 15–9 overall and 10–3 in SAC play.
Jacob Clark delivered a standout performance, earning the win after throwing seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out six. Jake McGlynn closed the game with two scoreless innings, striking out two to secure the shutout.
Newberry struck first in the second inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues by Tusculum to plate three runs. Logan Busenlehner delivered an RBI single up the middle to bring home the game's first run before Jomar Lugo followed with a two-run double to left field that pushed the Wolves ahead 3–0.
The Wolves added to their lead in the fifth inning when Cooper Raines doubled to left-center and later scored on an RBI single from Keillor Osbon, extending the advantage to 4–0.
Newberry sealed the win with a three-run ninth inning. Bryson Nuckols scored on a sacrifice bunt by Lugo, while Luke Compton drove in a run with an RBI double down the left-field line. Raines later came around to score to cap the scoring and give the Wolves the 7–0 final margin.
Newberry finished the game with nine hits, including five doubles, while the pitching staff limited Tusculum to five hits in the contest.
The Wolves will look to carry the momentum into tomorrow with a series deciding doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
