Todd’s Eight-Point Day Powers Wolves Past Mars Hill

NEWBERRY, S.C. — The Newberry women's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance Wednesday afternoon, defeating Mars Hill 19–4 in South Atlantic Conference action at Setzler Field. With the win, the Wolves improve to 5–3 overall and 2–1 in SAC play. 

Newberry wasted little time setting the tone, opening the scoring just 46 seconds into the game when Ella Todd found the back of the net off an assist from Shannon Creagh. The Wolves quickly built momentum as Tunie Mullen and Lana Howell added goals to push the early lead to 3–0. Todd scored twice more in the opening quarter to complete a first-period hat trick as Newberry surged to an 8–2 advantage after the first 15 minutes.

The Wolves continued to control play in the second quarter. Chloe Baker scored off an assist from Tomi NewkirkRyann Bunner followed with a goal assisted by Nicole DiNapoli, and Scythe Shephard added another to give Newberry an 11–2 lead at halftime. Newberry maintained its momentum in the second half. Bunner opened the third-quarter scoring with a goal assisted by Todd before Delaney Harrison and Creagh added goals to extend the lead. Todd capped the quarter with her fourth goal of the afternoon, pushing the score to 15–3 heading into the final period.

The Wolves added four more goals in the fourth quarter from Creagh, Olivia O'HaraCallie Crass, and Madison Schiffbauer to secure the 19–4 victory. Todd led all players with four goals and four assists for eight points, while Creagh added three goals and two assists. Bunner finished with two goals, while Baker, Shephard, DiNapoli, Mullen, Howell, Harrison, O'Hara, Crass, Schiffbauer, and Dakota Beasley each added a goal. Newberry showcased its offensive depth with 12 different players scoring and 11 assists on 19 goals.

Defensively, the Wolves limited Mars Hill to just three shots on goal while forcing 23 turnovers. Newberry also controlled possession throughout the contest, holding advantages in shots (28–15)shots on goal (21–3), and ground balls (19–9) while finishing a perfect 18-for-18 on clearsSkylar Duval-Lewis led the defensive effort with five ground balls and four caused turnovers, while Tunie Mullen added two ground balls and three draw controls.
