Wolves Fall to #10 Men's and #3 Women's North Georgia Tennis Teams

DAHLONEGA, GA - The Newberry College men's and women's tennis teams opened their road schedule Thursday afternoon with a dual at the University of North Georgia, gaining valuable early season experience against a strong ranked UNG lineups.

Women's Tennis Highlights

The Newberry women's squad also competed in all three doubles flights and six singles matches, gaining valuable match repetitions early in the season.

In doubles, Hazel Vernon and Lina Sarhan delivered a strong showing at No. 2 doubles, finishing level at 4-4 against North Georgia's Louise Rey and Linn Goerdes. At the No. 1 position, Renee Dorval and Yui Suzuki faced a nationally experienced pair, while Margarita Roshka and Aina Miralles rounded out doubles play.

Singles action saw Vernon turn in one of the day's most competitive performances, pushing her match to three sets and winning in tiebreaker. At the No. 4 spot, Miralles also battled through three sets at singles, but lost in the tiebreaker. 

Men's Tennis Highlights

Newberry saw action across all three doubles flights and six singles positions, with several Wolves battling deep into sets against North Georgia.

In doubles play, the No. 1 tandem of Daniel Watson and Lucas Mruk opened the day with a tightly contested 4-4 match that went unfinished. At No. 2 doubles, Senthen Reddy and Sohei Kamiyama also remained competitive, posting a 4-6 result, while Evan Phillips and Maxime Dierickx faced a tough challenge at the third spot.

Singles competition featured hard-fought efforts throughout the lineup. Watson competed at the top spot, while Dierickx, Reddy, Mruk, Kamiyama and Phillips each took the court in the middle and lower positions. Reddy pushed his opponent in the second set at No. 3 singles, and Mruk showed resilience in his opening set at the No. 4 position.

The Wolves will return to the courts on February 7th to play at home against Francis Marion.
