NEWBERRY, SC - In a midweek contest at the Smith Road Complex, the Newberry College baseball team fell 7–2 to Lander University on Wednesday afternoon, dropping the Wolves to 1–2 on the young 2026 season. Lander struck early and often, plating two runs in the first inning and adding additional scoring in the middle innings to build a lead Newberry could not overcome.

Lander built a 3–0 lead with single runs in the first, second, and fourth innings, then broke the game open with a four-run sixth to extend the margin to 7–1. Newberry got on the board in the fifth when Luke Compton singled to left-center to drive in Chandler Mims, and the Wolves added their second run in the sixth on K.J. Leshko's RBI single up the middle that scored Campbell McCurry, but the rally stopped there as Lander closed out the win.

The Wolves finished with 10 hits, led by Compton (2-for-4, RBI), McCurry (2-for-3), Leshko (2-for-4, RBI) and Mims (2-for-4, run scored).

Newberry will face off against Barton in their next contest in a three-game series starting on Friday at 4pm.
