NEWBERRY, S.C.—Newberry College women's lacrosse improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play with an 11-9 victory over Converse University after leading 8-4 at halftime and surviving a late fourth-quarter rally.
Newberry outshot Converse 28-23 and placed 18 shots on goal compared to 12 for the visitors. In the circle, the Wolves dominated draw controls 18-4, helping sustain possession, while also holding a 16-14 edge in ground balls. Newberry finished 10-of-14 on clears, while Converse went 16-of-24, and the Wolves forced 17 turnovers. In goal,
Catherine Downes recorded six saves to anchor the defensive effort, matching Converse's nine total saves from its keeper. Offensively, Newberry was paced by
Jadie Burns with four goals, followed by
Tunie Mullen (2 goals),
Scythe Shephard (1 goal),
Delaney Harrison (1 goal, 1 assist),
Olivia O'Hara (1 goal),
Lana Howell (1 goal), and
Nicole DiNapoli (1 goal), giving the Wolves a balanced scoring attack. Converse countered with a strong effort, finishing with 23 shots and 12 on goal, but Newberry's early 8-4 halftime advantage and control of possession ultimately secured the home win.
