NEWBERRY, SC – Newberry softball split its Saturday doubleheader against North Greenville University at the Smith Road Complex, securing a come-from-behind 5–2 win in game one and falling 5–3 in game two. The Wolves combined clutch hitting and late-inning rallies with effective pitching to take the opener, then battled throughout the afternoon before the Trailblazers pushed across key runs mid-game to earn the split.
Game 1 — Newberry 5, North Greenville 2
Newberry erased an early 2–0 deficit and took control with a pivotal two-run fourth inning on hits from Samantha Clark (RBI) and Bethany Pigg (sacrifice fly) to tie it. The Wolves then put the game away in the fifth when Payton Little delivered a two-run homer and Brooke Crosby added an RBI single to break the game open. Starter Natalie Wescott pitched a complete game, scattering eight hits and striking out four while keeping NGU's offense in check once Newberry had momentum.
Game 2 — North Greenville 5, Newberry 3
North Greenville jumped out to a 5–2 lead, scoring two in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth. Newberry rallied late, plating a rus in the fifth when Payton Little (RBI) scored Brooke Hodges. However, the Trailblazers' early scoring and timely at-bats held up as NGU's starter tossed a complete game, allowing just three unearned runs while earning the 5–3 win. Newberry finished with eight hits and contributions up and down the lineup, but could not fully overcome the early deficit.
The Wolves will return home next Saturday for a doubleheader with California University of Pennsylvania in a 1pm start.
