Wolves Rally Twice in Walk-Off Fashion to Sweep USC Beaufort Doubleheader

NEWBERRY, SC – Newberry softball delivered one of its most dramatic afternoons of the season with back-to-back walk-off victories over USC Beaufort at the Smith Road Complex, winning game one, 4–3, and game two, 10–9. The Wolves showed clutch hitting and resilience late in both games, overcoming deficits and using multi-hit efforts and high-pressure at-bats to score the decisive runs in the seventh and ninth innings.

Game 1: Newberry 4, USC Beaufort 3 (7 Inn.)

In the opener, Newberry scored four unanswered runs in the seventh inning to erase a 3–0 deficit and walk it off, capped by a two-out, go-ahead RBI from Bethany Pigg. USC Beaufort had taken a 3–0 lead in the sixth, but the Wolves answered in the bottom of the seventh with a game-winning rally.

Newberry's offense was led by Samantha Clark's RBI single to spark the comeback, followed by sacrifice production from Katie Henri and run-scoring hits by Haidyn Campbell and Pigg that produced the dramatic 4–3 walk-off victory. Katie Kapusta earned the win after shutting down the Sand Sharks in relief to close out the seventh.

Game 2 — Newberry 10, USC Beaufort 9 (9 Inn.)

Newberry's Game 2 victory was a thrilling battle full of momentum swings, highlighted by an eight-run first inning that put the Wolves ahead early, including multiple RBI hits by Brooke Crosby, Ella Stone, and Christine Butler. USC Beaufort battled back with a six-run second inning and additional rallies, tying the game up in the top of the seventh.

In the ninth, H. Campbell's RBI single drove in GraceAnn Thompkins with the walk-off run as Newberry prevailed 10–9. The Wolves produced a balanced offense with nine total hits, including contributions from Samantha Clark, Katie Henri, Brooke Hodges, and Payton Little, and overwhelmed the Sand Shark's pitching with early pressure and timely hitting throughout. Kapusta earned the win in relief with seven innings of work to help secure the sweep.

The Wolves will return to Smith Rd. Complex tomorrow for a doubleheader against North Greenville at 12pm and 2pm.
