Box Score MARIETTA, GA – Newberry men's volleyball earned a hard-fought 3–2 road victory over Life University on Friday night. The Wolves and Running Eagles traded momentum throughout the match, but Newberry closed out the match with a strong performance in the fifth set, capturing the victory in front of the Life crowd.
The Wolves seized control early in set one, hitting a stellar .400 and posting a 25-20 set win behind a balanced attack that featured Lucas Nieves (20 kills) and Preston Anderson (12). Life battled back in Sets 2 and 3, taking the middle frames as Newberry's offense cooled off, but the Wolves regrouped in Set 4 behind improved service and net play to force a decisive fifth. In the final set, Newberry's offense clicked again, hitting .421 to close out a 16-14 win and secure the overall 3–2 match victory.
Individually, Nieves led the Wolves with 20 kills, while Preston Anderson added 12 kills and contributed defensively with digs and blocks. Setter Greyson Crumpton orchestrated the offense with 33 assists, and Ignacio Rodriguez totaled eight blocks to disrupt the Running Eagles at the net. Newberry finished with 50 team kills, 13 blocks, and four aces, outlasting Life's squad and closing out in the fifth set for the hard-earned road win.
The Wolves will hope to carry their momentum into their next match on the road against Fort Valley State (GA) tomorrow at 2pm.
