NEWBERRY, SC – Newberry baseball made things interesting with a three-run push in the middle innings, but the Wolves fell 5–3 to Francis Marion on Feb. 24 at the Smith Road Complex. The Patriots broke through with three runs in the third, added single tallies in the fifth and sixth, and then held off Newberry's comeback attempt as Francis Marion's bullpen recorded the final 11 outs without allowing a run.

Francis Marion did its damage in the third, taking a 3–0 lead before extending it to 4–0 in the fifth. Newberry answered in the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back RBI singles from Cody Bradt (scoring Chandler Mims) and Nick Foster (scoring Luke Compton) to cut the margin to 4–2.

The Patriots tacked on one in the sixth, but the Wolves responded right away when Mims drove in Logan Busenlehner with an RBI single up the middle to make it 5–3. Newberry got multi-hit days from Mims (2-for-3, RBI, run, walk) and also saw Compton reach twice and score, while Keillor Osbon took the loss after 5.0 innings with five strikeouts. Out of the bullpen, Jake McGlynn delivered three scoreless innings with four punchouts to keep the Wolves within striking distance late.

The Wolves will remain home for the first game of a three-game SAC series vs. Emory and Henry on Friday at 5pm.
