MORRISVILLE, N.C. — The Newberry College women's basketball team battled hard on the road Wednesday night but fell to Wingate University, 68-59.
Leading the way for Newberry was Marykate Kent, who delivered a team-high 18 points and knocked down timely shots to keep the Wolves within striking distance. Rickell Brown added 13 points and 7 rebounds, continuing her presence inside, while Reghan Williams chipped in 8 points off the bench.
The Wolves kept it close throughout the first quarter and entered halftime facing a 41-24 deficit after a big second frame by the Bulldogs. Newberry came out strong in the second half, sparked by a vigorous third quarter, where the Wolves outscored Wingate and tightened the contest.
The Wolves will be back home on Saturday, February 21, at 2 PM against Carson–Newman.
