WINGATE, NC – The Newberry Wolves battled fiercely on the road but came up just short by two points in a thrilling matchup at Cuddy Arena. Trailing 36-29 at halftime, the Wolves surged in the second half through multiple lead changes and six ties, keeping fans on the edge of their seats throughout the game.
Drake Downs led Newberry with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, including 4 of 6 from three-point range. Kayzzin McDowell added 14 points, hitting four triples, while Malakhi Stremlow contributed 10 points. The team finished shooting 52.6% from three-point range and 70.0% from the free-throw line.
Despite the strong effort, the final score was 68-66, leaving the Wolves with a record of 10-15 overall and 6-13 in conference play. Newberry returns home on Saturday, February 21, to face Carson–Newman for Senior Day.
