DUE WEST, SC – Newberry's baseball team delivered a dominant all-around performance to take down Erskine 9–1 Tuesday afternoon at Grier Field. The Wolves built an early lead and never looked back, spreading the offense around the lineup and finishing with 10 hits while holding Erskine to just one run and eight hits.
Newberry scored in the first inning when Bryson Nuckols crossed home on a groundout by Keillor Osbon, then added another in the fourth on an RBI single by K.J. Leshko that plated Cooper Raines. The offense erupted in the seventh, scoring six runs on a string of key hits and taking advantage of defensive miscues, including an RBI sacrifice fly by Luke Compton, an Osbon RBI single, and a two-RBI knock from Campbell McCurry. Newberry put the game firmly in hand before adding an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI single from Finn McLaughlin.
On the mound, Cayden Hansen earned the win with five scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out two, and the bullpen preserved the lead with scoreless work from Will Rissmiller and Blake Morrison before Caden Beaver allowed the lone Erskine run in the late innings.
